St. Augustine said about Matthew 12:31-32, which deals with blasphemy of the Holy Spirit:“There is probably no greater, no more difficult problem to be found in all the Holy Scriptures.” The questions that will be worked on in the present book are; what precisely is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, and why will it not be forgiven in this life or the life to come? In Chapter One we willlook at the inspiration, inerrancy, and the interpretation of Scripture. In Chapter Two we will consider John the Baptist and his encounter with Pharisees. In Chapter Three we will move on to Jesus and the Pharisees in Matthew 9, taking an in depth look at Hosea and 1 Samuel 15. In Chapter Four wewill move into the near context of Matthew 12:1-30, with consideration of Isaiah 42 and Psalm 2. In Chapter Five we will deal with what blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is and why it will not be forgiven, exploring the positions of St. John Chrysostom, St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, and John Paul II.
