Disability and Poverty

Poverty creates disability and disability creates poverty. People with disability are often among the poorest of the poor. In Bangladesh most people with disabilities live in the rural areas. They, and sometimes also their families, are often excluded both from their communities and from development initiatives. To know the poverty situation of the selected area, we first calculated the poverty line income to determine the poor and non-poor. Since we didn’t have the data on food and non-food items to calculate the Tronqvist price index which was needed to calculate the poverty line income, we updated the poverty line income used in HIES-2005 survey by the rate of inflation of the respective year. To measure the inequalities we used the Lorenz ratio. To calculate the intergenerational mobility of household land ownership and household food security we used Markov Chain techniques.
