In a remote solar system, a terrible war has raged between two rival planets whose human colonists were forced to adapt in totally different ways to the contrasting conditions of their separate homes. During this merciless conflict one contender encountered a bizarre object suspected of being a cosmic superstring which the rival side was employing as a new weapon. Under attack, the object collapsed into four parts, each found to be packed with alien technology or some unknown form of life. Sometime later, while conducting research on this alien entity they now call "the Worm", a female scientist, impregnated in strange circumstances, gives birth to quads and then inexplicably commits suicide by stepping directly out into space… The war is finally brought to an end by use of new weapons deployed by giant space dreadnoughts nicknamed "hilldiggers", whose destructive power proves sufficient to obliterate cities and delve entire new mountain ranges out of the...Похожие книги
