Newspaper publisher Harry Stevenson Southam (1875-1954) was one of Canada s foremost collectors of art in the 1930s and 1940s. As Chairman of the National Gallery of Canada Board of Trustees, he helped shape the national collection and foster an appreciation of new Canadian art. This publication documents Southam s extensive collection with works by, notably, members of the Group of Seven, Emily Carr, Prudence Heward and Anne Savage.
