The focus of this study is learner uptake, defined as a response to an interlocutor`s reformulation of a learner`s nontargetlike linguistic forms during communicative interaction. Uptake may contain modified output and it may be a manifestation of noticing, and both modified output and noticing have generally been argued to have a positive relationship with learning. Addressing the relationship between uptake and learning may contribute to a deeper understanding of what may lead to learning. The study investigated the rates of uptake and repair (the latter a subset of uptake) and analyzed them with the learner`s posttest score improvement. Major findings include: Uptake and repair were significantly related with immediate improvement of oral performance, but not of grammaticality judgments.
