In the past three decades, divorcing couples have increasingly entered the national social consciousness, and gained attention in formal research agendas. However, there exist few studies examining the process that divorced adults traverse when reestablishing intimate relationships. This book focuses on how adults believe divorce has shaped their current thinking about intimacy, as well as the changes sought in post-divorce relationships. Sensitizing concepts from social constructionism, attribution and attachment theories guided this study. By developing a thematic description of adults’ thinking and expectations regarding post-divorce intimacy, it provides important insights into this population. This book should be useful to counseling professionals, as it contributes specific understandings about how adults interpret their divorce in relation to current relationships.
